About Our Classes
Mrs. Hilto's Chinese Class
Lots of parents have considered letting their child take a language class and NYCL is able to meet that request. NYCL opened a Chinese class that is taught by Ms. Hilto, who is a strict but amazing teacher. She cooperated with other parents to make sure she can provide the best learning environment for every student who needs it. Classes will be held three times a week starting from July 19 and ending on August 19. She has a very flexible schedule but would of course like for all her students to attend as many classes as possible. She will start off with the most basic pinyin and lead the students into a greater depth of knowledge by reading various types of Chinese literature.

线上中文课 Online Chinese Class (Alvin)

NYCL organized a remote class for kids who are interested in learning Chinese. Although not free, NYCL only charged $5 per class, a cheap and real deal for parents who would like their kids to learn some Chinese. Alvin Lin, who also leads a storytelling class was the main teacher. The classes were held online on Zoom conferences every week on Saturday at 10 AM. Students would be able to learn and build on their basics of Chinese such as pinyin to much harder reading such as characters, poems, and even later short stories. The explanations will be explained in English to ensure that all the students in the class will be able to follow along and have fun while they learn about the language and culture of China.

三年级州考/袋鼠数学线上公益课(Qi Jun Ma)
Remote Third Grade State Test/ Kangaroo Math Class led by Qi Jun Ma

This class held by NYCL is a remote class that is meant for third graders that aims to improve their math and English language arts skills. This course gave the kids good practice of what the state test will be like as for most of them, it would be their first year taking the state test. In addition to State Test Practice, there would also be kangaroo math questions which are slightly harder than normal math questions and require the students to think more. These questions will help improve their math skills as well. The classes were held remotely on Saturdays at 6:30 pm.

夏令营 2022 Summer Camp

NYCL introduced a Summer Camp/School for students to spend their day that lasted from July 5th to August 26, 2022. The summer school took place at 245 North Gannon Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10314 with multiple classrooms that accommodated the population of kids. With Jeff as the head principal and the other board members of NYCL working together to open the classes, we were able to open classrooms for K-5th grade children. The price of this Summer Camp package was also quite favorable for the parents. Kids were dropped off by their parents at 9:00 am and have classes with breaks/lunchtime in between until 6:00 pm. Each grade level will be able to learn various subjects including the basics of math, reading, and writing. We also incorporated other extracurriculars for the students, including drawing, Chinese, kung fu, yoga classes, and so on. The students spend approximately an hour and a half in each class and rotate to their next class. Teachers are all educated in the subjects that they are teaching and NYCL has also recruited several volunteer high school students to play the role of assistant teachers in the classrooms.
